It's going to be really exciting to see once we start to see floors being poured above grade level!

For a month of construction, things seem to be moving really slowly.

It's also been a harsh winter, don't forget. It probably wasn't easy to pour concrete with all the snow and freezing temperatures we had. Now that it's warmed up a bit, the building will probably start to shoot up into the sky.

/\ Haha... yeah, we've had this conversation before. Someone should link that thread on here.

I have a feeling a lot of the developments around town will start moving along quickly now with the improved weather....

is right.

I found the link to the thread "Why does building anything in KW take so long?" Read through it might provide insight into the topic. It's still inconclusive as far as I can tell, but some good guesses.

Construction appears to have picked up a bit during the last month, with 1.something floors added. Once again, it's nothing to brag about, but i do find the speed 'acceptable', and it's not terribly slow (like the accountancy addition).
It's all relative. Generally, it's not too fast. But compared to Arrow Lofts or the School of Pharmacy, Bauer lofts is moving at lightning speed!

I think everyone just watches these "landmark" projects too closely, hence the pace seems anemic. I travel for work quite a bit and was away 2 weeks at the start of this month, the change in those two weeks seemed massive. Now that I am back and I see this project from my office window daily nothing seems to be changing, I just see the white crane moving a whole lot.

This brings me to my second point about the red crane seeing hardly any use. Does renting that crane not cost the developer $$$? Why bring it onsite if its hardly ever used, when the white crane could pick up the occasional slack?

I thought I noticed that red crane getting use this week! Notice also from the above pic vs. the last one that a partial floor seems to have been poured now in just over 1 week. Thats decent pace by any standard.

Yeah, I live in the neighbourhood and pass by the site frequently. Pace has definitely picked up. I believe the 4th floor is now essentially complete (compare this to the shot from Friday above). The site is busy on weekends as well, it appears as though things have really picked up with the good weather.

The red crane appears to be used only for the office and retail components on the North side of the site. You can see above that work on the foundation (underground parking?) has begun here as well which may explain why you saw the red crane in action the other day. They've also begin to shore up the historical facade and will likely be starting work in there shortly by the looks of things.
