The town was formed by the union of two settlements (one from 1896 and the other from 1908) which, in 1913, began to be known together as Villa Madero, a new name given that year to the nearby railway station inaugurated in 1908.
More recently, due to significant growth, it has begun to be called Ciudad Madero.
Until 2013, Ciudad Madero included Ciudad Celina, which became a separate city. Together, they had 133,000 inhabitants.
It currently has about 50 monoblocks.
