Herford is a municipality located at the confluence of the River Aa and Werre in the district of the same name. It is also the administrative seat of that district.
The town is famous for having been founded by Charlemagne, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, in 789. It is also known for its museums and being the home of the 1st Armoured Division of the British Forces in Germany.
