Harrisburg

Harrisburg is the capital of Pennsylvania as well as the seat of Dauphin County. It is located on the Susquehanna River in the south-central part of the state.

Founded in the mid 1700's by John Harris, the city is noted for its influence in the Westward Migration, the American Civil War, and the Industrial Revolution. Harrisburg was designated the capital of Pennsylvania in 1812 and incorporated as a city in 1860.

Today, Harrisburg is a modern commercial hub and is one of the fastest growing areas in Pennsylvania. The population of the metropolitan area is over 640,000.
