Pittsburgh was founded in 1758 and sits at the confluence of the Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio rivers in western Pennsylvania. The city was made the seat of Allegheny County in 1791.
Pittsburgh, nicknamed "The Steel City", was traditionally considered the center of the American steel industry. In recent years the city has turned to high technology, robotics, biomedical technology, finance, and service based fields.
Today, Pittsburgh is the second busiest inland port in the nation. The population of the metropolitan area is over 2.4 million. |
