Zhenjiang City is a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, China. It is located in the southwest of Jiangsu Province, on the south bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. At the end of 2024, the permanent population was 3.228 million. As of 2025, it will manage three county-level cities and three districts, with a total area of 3840 square kilometers and a dialect of Zhenjiang dialect.

Zhenjiang has been named since the Northern Song Dynasty and was the capital of Jiangsu Province during the Republic of China period. On April 23, 1949, the urban and suburban areas of Zhenjiang were designated as Zhenjiang City, under the jurisdiction of the Zhenjiang Special Administration of the Sunan Administrative Region. In 1953, the administrative system of Jiangsu Province was restored, and the Zhenjiang Commissioner's Office was established. Zhenjiang City was designated as a county-level city and the seat of the special agency. In March 1983, Zhenjiang City was upgraded to a provincial-level city.
Zhenjiang is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the "Golden Cross Waterway" of the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal, and is an important advanced manufacturing base and regional center city in the Yangtze River Delta.
