Taizhou, abbreviated as "Tai", is also known as "Hailing", "Haiyang", and "Xiangtai State". It is a prefecture level city in Jiangsu Province. Located in central Jiangsu, adjacent to the Yangtze River in the south, Yancheng in the north, Nantong in the east, and Yangzhou in the west, it is one of the central cities of the Yangtze River Delta. The total area of the city is 5787.98 square kilometers.
As of March 2023, it has jurisdiction over three cities: Jingjiang City, Taixing City, and Xinghua City, as well as three districts: Hailing District, Pharmaceutical High tech Zone (Gaogang District), and Jiangyan District, with a total of 61 towns, 2 townships, and 25 street offices. As of the end of 2022, the permanent population was 4.5056 million, and the regional GDP reached 640.177 billion yuan. The terrain of Taizhou is characterized by a middle high and a north-south low trend. It belongs to the humid climate of the southern part of the northern subtropical zone.

In the sixth year of Emperor Wu of Han's Yuanshou reign (117 BC), Hailing County was established, under the jurisdiction of Linhuai Commandery. In the sixth year of the Jianwu reign of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Hailing County was incorporated into Dongyang County, and during the Republic of China, Taizhou was called Tai County; After liberation, the Taizhou area was once called Tai County, Taizhou County, and Taizhou City.
