Ulanqab is a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, located in the north of China, in the central part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It borders Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province to the east and Youyu County in Shanxi Province to the south; It borders the joint banner of Dahanmao Ming'an in Hohhot and Baotou cities to the west. The total area is 54500 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 11 counties, cities, and districts.

Ulanqab has various geomorphic types. From north to south, it is mainly composed of four parts: the Inner Mongolian Plateau, Ulanqab hills, Yinshan mountains and hilly platforms. Located in the temperate zone, it belongs to the continental monsoon climate zone. There are currently more than 80 types of minerals discovered in Ulanqab, with 49 proven reserves and a potential economic value of about 450 billion yuan. 29 types have been developed and utilized, among which copper, fluorite, graphite, bentonite, diatomaceous earth, limestone, coal and other reserves are abundant.

In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city reached 101.79 billion yuan, an increase of 4.0% over the previous year. As of the end of 2022, the city's permanent population was 1.6311 million, including 35 ethnic groups such as Han, Mongolian, Hui, Manchu, Daur, Ewenki, and Korean.

As of the end of 2022, there are a total of 3 ordinary universities, 15 secondary vocational education schools, 26 ordinary high schools, 51 ordinary junior high schools, and 111 primary schools in the city. There are a total of 2119 medical and health institutions in the city, including 61 hospitals; 2014 primary healthcare institutions; There are 40 professional public health institutions.

During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Ulanqab region was an important transportation hub and logistics distribution center between the mainland and Inner and Outer Mongolia. Jining has always been a strategic location and transportation hub outside the Great Wall, serving as a hub connecting Beijing, Xuanhua, Datong, and other places. In history, it was an important distribution center for trade between the Central Plains and the Mongolian grasslands, and an important node on the grassland Silk Road. During the Qing Dynasty, the Qing court also established multiple royal ranches and the Imperial Household Department Ranch dedicated to royal meat consumption in this area, which were distributed with the Imperial Household Department's large herds of horses and cattle and sheep.

Ulanqab has historical and cultural attractions such as Xuegang Mountain in Fengzhen, Three Holy Temples, and the ancient city ruins of Jining Road in the Yuan Dynasty
