Qinhuangdao, abbreviated as Qin, also known as Gangcheng or Linyu, is a prefecture level city in Hebei Province. It is located in the northern region of China, northeast of Hebei Province, and borders the Bohai Sea to the south. The total land area of the city is 7802 square kilometers, and the sea area is 1805 square kilometers. As of 2019, the city has jurisdiction over 4 districts and 3 counties. Qinhuangdao is known as the "global summer city". Qinhuangdao belongs to the warm temperate semi humid continental monsoon climate, and its terrain is high in the north and low in the south, forming a pattern of mountains, hills, plains, and shallow seas gradually distributed. China's coastal city, a national comprehensive transportation hub, one of the first coastal open cities in China, is a national historical and cultural city and the only zero distance coastal city in Hebei Province. It is known as the "Great Wall Coastal Park" and the "backyard of Beijing and Tianjin". As of the end of 2022, the city's permanent resident population was 3.0981 million. As of 2022, the city's gross domestic product is 190.952 billion yuan.

As of 2022, there are a total of 570 kindergartens, 412 primary schools, 157 regular middle schools, 38 secondary vocational schools, 11 regular higher education institutions, 4018 medical and health institutions in the city, with a total of 20600 beds in medical and health institutions.

After the end of the Liaoshen Campaign, the Chinese People's Liberation Army, with a destructive force like autumn wind sweeping away fallen leaves, entered the border from Northeast China and destroyed the local political power of the Kuomintang in one fell swoop. On November 27, 1948, Shanhaiguan and Qinhuangdao were liberated and "Qinyu City" was established. The Communist Party of China's Linyu County Committee and Linyu County People's Government relocated from Ant Gully to Haiyang Town. In March 1949, Shanhaiguan was established as a city and placed under the jurisdiction of Liaoxi Province. The name "Qinyu City" was changed to "Qinhuangdao City" (mainly the urban part, with the rural part under the jurisdiction of Linyu County).

Qinhuangdao has a superior location and convenient transportation. The five national railway trunk lines of Jingshan, Jingqin, Daqin, Qinshen, and Shenshan intersect here. The Jinqin Railway Passenger Dedicated Line, Jingshen Expressway, Coastal Expressway, and Chengqin Expressway run through the entire area. Beidaihe Civil Aviation Airport has opened multiple air routes
