Hohhot, also known as Hohhot, Guisui, Qingcheng, and Yunzhong, belongs to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and is located in the central part of the region. Located on the south side of Daqing Mountain in central Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, it borders Baotou City and Ordos City to the west, Ulanqab City to the east, and Shanxi Province to the south.
As of the end of 2021, the city has jurisdiction over 4 districts, 4 counties, and 1 banner, with a total area of 17200 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the city's permanent population was 3.5511 million people. Hohhot is a national forest city, a national innovative pilot city, and an excellent tourist city in China, known as the "Milk Capital of China".
Hohhot belongs to the mid temperate arid and semi-arid continental monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 3.5C -8C and an average annual precipitation of 337-418 millimeters. The climate varies significantly throughout the four seasons and is pleasant. The territory is mainly divided into two geomorphic units, namely the northern Daqingshan and the southeastern Manhan Mountains, which are mountainous terrain, and the southern and southwestern parts are the Tumochuan Plain terrain. The terrain gradually slopes from northeast to southwest. The total GDP of the city in 2022 is 332.91 billion yuan.
As of the end of 2022, there are a total of 24 regular universities, 118 regular middle schools, 195 primary schools, and 442 kindergartens in the city. There are a total of 2539 health institutions in the city, with 23137 beds and 33339 health technicians.
Hohhot has a long history and splendid culture, and is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. During the pre Qin period, King Wuling of Zhao established Yunzhong Commandery here, located in the southwestern part of present-day Tokutu County in Hohhot. In 1954, it was renamed Hohhot, which means "green city" in Mongolian.
There is the site of the ancient human stone tool manufacturing site "Dayao Culture" dating back 700000 years in the city, the oldest "Zhao Great Wall" in China dating back to the Warring States period in the 4th century BC, the tomb of Zhao Jun in the 1st century AD as a witness to the history of "Hu Han Harmony", the world's only astronomical figure carved in Mongolian characters, the Vajrayana Pagoda, and the Xilituzhao Temple, known as the "model of Buddhist architecture"; Hohhot is also a transit point for the Silk Tea Camel Road and a place where temple culture is prevalent
