Zibo, abbreviated as "Zi" and also known as "the former capital of Qi State and Zizhou", is under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province. It is located at the foot of Taiyi Mountain to the south, borders the Nine Bend Yellow River to the north, is adjacent to the provincial capital Jinan to the west, and is adjacent to Weifang and Qingdao to the east. The total administrative area of the city is 5965 square kilometers. As of 2019, the city's administrative divisions are divided into five districts and three counties, 30 streets, and 58 towns. As of 2022, the city's permanent resident population is approximately 4.7059 million people.
The terrain of Zibo City is high in the south and low in the north, with undulating mountains in the south and east and west wings, and a central depression that slopes northward, with a height difference of over a thousand meters between the north and south. It belongs to a semi humid and semi-arid continental climate with an average temperature of 14.7C. Water resources include surface water and groundwater. As of 2022, the city has achieved a regional gross domestic product of 440.26 billion yuan. In 2022, it was awarded the title of "National Health City".
Famous schools in Zibo include Qilu Medical College, Shandong University of Technology, and others. As of 2022, there are 4670 medical and health institutions in the city.
In August 1945, Zibo Special Zone was established with a commissioner's office under the jurisdiction of Luzhong Administrative Region, marking the beginning of Zibo becoming a political district name. Revoked in September. It was established twice in January 1946 and revoked again in July. In March 1948, the entire territory of Zibo was liberated, and in August, Zibo Special Zone was established again, under the jurisdiction of the Central South Administrative Region of Shandong.
