Luzhou, formerly known as Jiangyang and Jiangcheng, is a prefecture level city in Sichuan Province. It is located in the southeast of Sichuan Province, bordering Chongqing and Guizhou provinces to the east, Guizhou province to the south, Yunnan province, Yibin and Zigong cities to the west, and Neijiang and Chongqing cities to the north. The city has three districts, four counties, and 126 townships (streets) under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, the jurisdiction covers an area of 12236.2 square kilometers, with a permanent population of 4.263 million and a regional GDP of 260.152 billion yuan in 2022.

Luzhou is located in the transition zone between the southern edge of Sichuan Basin and the the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It is a subtropical humid climate zone. There are 5950 species of higher plants belonging to 813 genera and 520 families in Luzhou, including 6 species of national first-class protected plants and 24 species of second-class protected plants

As of the end of 2022, there are 685 kindergartens, 194 primary schools, 185 junior high schools, 7 special education schools, 29 ordinary high schools, 16 secondary vocational education schools, and 8 ordinary universities in the city. There are 4513 medical and health institutions (including village clinics) operating in the city, including 144 hospitals, 4330 primary health institutions, 28 professional public health institutions, and 11 other health institutions. In hospitals, there are 87 comprehensive hospitals, 24 traditional Chinese medicine hospitals, and 33 specialized hospitals.

On March 3, 1983, the State Council approved the establishment of Luzhou City under provincial jurisdiction, which includes Shizhong District, Luxian County, Naxi County, and Hejiang County. On June 4, 1985, the State Council decided to transfer Xuyong County and Gulin County to the jurisdiction of Luzhou City. On July 1, 1996, the administrative divisions of Luzhou City were adjusted to include Jiangyang District, Longmatan District, Naxi District, Luxian County, Hejiang County, Xuyong County, and Gulin County. The municipal government was located in Dashanping, Jiangyang District, Luzhou City.

As of the end of 2022, there are 30 A-level tourist attractions in the city, including 13 4A level ones. There are 3 classic red tourism scenic spots in China and 2 provincial-level tourist resorts. At the end of the year, there were 17 star rated tourist hotels, including 1 five-star, 7 four-star, 4 three-star, and 5 two star. There are 39 travel agencies, including 4 travel agencies with outbound qualifications. There is 1 national second-class tourist homestay, 1 Tianfu tourist homestay, 3 Jiucheng tourist homestays, and 35 star rated farmhouse and rural hotels
