Yangzhou, also known as Guangling, is a prefecture level city in Jiangsu Province. It is located in the central part of Jiangsu Province, at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is an important node city in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, a commercial port and tourist city, and a water source for the South to North Water Diversion Project. It is adjacent to Yancheng City and Taizhou City to the east, faces Zhenjiang City across the Yangtze River to the south, is connected to Nanjing City to the southwest, borders Chuzhou City in Anhui Province to the west, and borders Huai'an City to the northwest.

As of April 2023, it has jurisdiction over 1 county, 2 county-level cities, 3 districts, and 3 functional areas; The land area of the jurisdiction is 6591 square kilometers. Has won titles such as "World Canal Capital", "East Asian Cultural Capital", "UN Habitat Award City", "National Environmental Protection Model City", "National Forest City", etc., is known as the "Famous Capital of Huaizuo and the Best Place in Zhuxi", and enjoys the reputation of "China's First Canal City".

The terrain in Yangzhou is high in the west and low in the east, belonging to the transitional zone from subtropical monsoon humid climate to temperate monsoon climate; Having mineral resources such as oil and natural gas; As of March 2022, there are 1111 major rivers at or above the township (Dagou) level within the territory. In 2022, the city will achieve a regional gross domestic product of 710.498 billion yuan.

Yangzhou is one of the first 24 historical and cultural cities in China, dating back to 486 BC when King Fuchai of Wu opened the Hangou and built the city of Han. During the Han Dynasty, present-day Yangzhou was known as Guangling and Jiangdu, and had long been the fiefdom of feudal lords and kings. During the Three Kingdoms period, it was a military stronghold in the Jianghuai region. During the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Guangling was renamed Wuzhou. The Sui Dynasty renamed Wuzhou as Yangzhou and established the General Administration Office. During the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong visited Yangzhou multiple times. In January 1949, the present-day city of Yangzhou was liberated and Yangzhou City was established. In March 1983, it was transferred to provincial jurisdiction.

As of April 2023, there are 529 cultural relics protection units at all levels and types in Yangzhou, including Yangzhou School, Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics, Yangzhou Opera, Yangzhou Crafts, and Yangzhou style bonsai. Tourist attractions include Shouxi Lake, Geyuan, Heyuan, Zhongshuge, Wenfeng Pagoda, and others. The city flower is the Qiong flower. In 2024, Yangzhou City achieved a regional GDP of 780.964 billion yuan, an increase of 6.0%
