Huizhou City, also known as Goose City
Huizhou City has a South Asian tropical monsoon climate, with abundant sunshine throughout the year and distinct dry and wet seasons. The geological structure of Huizhou City is mainly characterized by northeast trending fault structures, and most of the landforms belong to medium low mountains and hills. As early as the pre Qin period, the ancient country of Jielou emerged, with its jurisdiction covering the areas of present-day Huizhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen, with its core located in present-day Boluo County, Huizhou. In 214 BC, Fuluo County was established, and after Emperor Wu of Han pacified the Nanyue Kingdom, it was renamed Boluo County. In the Yuan Dynasty, provincial roads were implemented, and the Ming and Qing Dynasties followed the old system. During the Anti Japanese War, Huizhou City established the main force of the South China Anti Japanese War - the Dongjiang Column. As a national historical and cultural city, Huizhou has been the political, economic, and cultural center of the Dongjiang River Basin since ancient times. The Dongjiang civilization developed in the Dongjiang River Basin is a major component of the Lingnan civilization. Huizhou City is one of the important settlements and distribution centers for Hakka people, and is the first of the four Hakka states, known as the Hakka Overseas Capital.
Huizhou City is a medium-sized agricultural city and one of the main grain producing areas in Guangdong Province. The city's agricultural products, such as Huidong potatoes and Boluofutian vegetable hearts, are nationally renowned and excellent new agricultural products. Huizhou Zhongkai High tech Industrial Development Zone is one of the first 56 national level development zones established in 1992.
In 2024, Huizhou City achieved a regional GDP of 613.639 billion yuan, an increase of 4.2% over the previous year
