Located at the site of the highest temperature ever recorded in Death Valley, a staggering 134 degrees Fahrenheit (56.6 deg. Celsius ) under the hot 1913 sun. This temperature has only been exceeded once, in El Azizia, Libya, by two degrees F.
To commemorate this, a giant thermometer standing exactly 134 feet high was erected in 1991. The display is all digital, there is no mercury or alcohol in it.
