Description • The historical lighthouse of Travemünde serve today as technical and structural cultural monument, a meaning as navigation mark, but is common for Travemünde as landmark and museum.
• The Travemünder lighthouse was built in 1539 replacing older ones and over-formed after (by thunderbolt released) a fire in the year 1827. It is thereby the oldest navigation mark and the oldest lighthouse at the Lübecker bay and the German Baltic Sea coast.
• In 1903 was changed from beacon to electrical light.
• In 1972 the light was shut-down. Since the build of Maritim Hotel and Residences covering its light and since 1974 the new lighthouse stays atop the Maritim Travemünde reaching 118 m with fire at 114 m, the tallest light in Europe.
• Today is only museum, observation and monument.
