Description
- The biggest gas tank is the far visible " small brother " in the city of Upper House of standing gas tank.
- The disc gas tank in Augsburg is the last which is still received in Bavaria and completely "built", has at ground level a big storeroom under the real container.
- Construction company: MAN (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg) Werk Gustavsburg
- Compartment Volume: 100.000 m³
- Side Panels ("Fields"): 20
- Side Lenght (each "Field"): 7,0 m
- Circumference: (20 Field x 7,0 m) 140m
- Consisting of 1800 riveted coat tins 810 mm of high(20 pieces per floor "Fields" x 90 pieces in high "Shots")
- 204000 rivets (approx. 6 million rivet beating) and 24.5 km of welds hold together the container.
- Approx. 70000 working hours were required for the construction, about 60 persons were occupied by the construction.
- There are 4 ambulatories (In each case with 21, 41, 61 and 81 "shots") around the outside lift a stair with 392 steps.
- Also an inside lift exists to the Sealing disc. Weight of the Sealing Disc (completely with Sealing oil, however, without concrete weights): 219 tons
- Weight of the Sealing Disc (incl. piece in 1820 (concrete) of weights): 356 tons
- The gas tank had a nearly steady "working pressure" of 23 mbar.
- The last complete protective painting: 1974
- The last disc control in company was on 30.3.2001.
It was up to 2001 (47 years) in service.
- At night a total of 7 red air-traffic warning lights (11 watts of energy savings lamps) are to be seen. Actually quite astonishingly how far it is possible to be seen 11 watts of lamp at night.
