- The mast was built in 1964 at Messkirch, and formed with three other masts of same type a directional antenna for medimwave transmission. In the Mid 1970's, it was dismantled, and on its site, a 240 metres tall mast radiator was built.
- The Messkirch mast was rebuilt at its current site in Trebur in 1981, and is used as FM broadcasting.
- Though, located in Hesse, it is a transmission tower for Südwestrundfunk, the public broadcasting company for the states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatina, instead of Hessischer Rundfunk, the public broadcasting company for Hesse.
