Description - originally built by Kato Yoshiaki
- one of Japan's few remaining original castles
- the current 3 storey tower was built in 1820, replacing a 5 storey tower which burned down after being struck by lightning
- situated on a large hill in the centre of Matsuyama city, giving it a mostly unobstructed view of the whole city
