Description

- Bridge Cost: $117.5 million

- The bridge contains 1,592 pre-cast concrete segments.

- The bridge contains 52 support pillars.

- The bridge contains approximately 150,000 cubic yards of concrete, 22 million pounds of reinforcement steel, 4,000 miles of half-inch steel cables.

- On August 28, 1982, a construction accident occurred when the piers could not effectively hold the weight of the bridge causing it to buckle delaying construction for years.

- The northbound lanes of the bridge opened to traffic on December 23, 1987, and the southbond lanes nearly a year later on September 19, 1988.
