Description
- Given to the French in 1829 by Mehemet Ali, the viceroy of Egypt at the time, the obelisk is over 3,300 years old and is decorated with hieroglyphics from the time of pharaohs Ramses II and Ramses III.

- The obelisk is faced in pink granite, weighs 230 tons, and once marked the entrance of the Luxor Temple.
