Description • C1 pylons were used for the section between Ludwigsburg and Bad Neuenahr of the such called "Nord-Süd-Leitung", the first 220kV-powerline in the world. Nord-Süd-Leitung allowed an effective exchange of electrical power between the coal fired power stations at Northrhine-Westphalia and the hydroelectric power plants in Austria and Southern Black Forest.
• This line, which was built by RWE AG was the germ cell of the European high voltage power grid.Beside this C1-pylons are from unique design and were only used or the section between Ludwigsburg and Bad Neuenahr of Nord-Süd-Leitung. A model of a C1-pylon is shown in German Museum in Munich.
• C1-pylons are designed for two three phase AC-circuits (6 conductors) with a maximum voltage of 380 kV, but used only for 220 kV-lines.
