Description • Formerly one of the eight OMEGA Navigation System transmitters of the world which were used as the world's first global radio navigation system, the station was decommissioned on September 30, 1997 due to the Global Positioning System becoming fully operational witch made the OMEGA facilities obsolete.
• The transmitter was reopened by the United States government in early 2004 to serve as a VLF (Very Low Frequency) transmitter to serve communications betweens submarines by lessening the workload for the Pacific or Atlantic stations.
