___________________________________________________________

The mast was built in 1963 for the realization of an overhorizon radio relay link to Fernmeldeturm Berlin-Schäferberg ( http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=468 ) and for TV broadcasting. When completed, it was with a height of 332 metres the tallest man-made object in West Germany, which it remained until the second half of the 1970ies.
The mast was up to the adapter of the TV broadcasting antenna in a height of 300 metres a lattice steel structure of square cross section with a side length of 4.2 metres. The mast was of extraordinary strong design and had a weight of 1001 tons. It was guyed in 4 levels with double guys with a total length of 5.9 kilometres and a total weight of 126 tons. The mast was equipped with an elevator, which could reach a height of 289 metres. In 1982 the TV broadcasting antenna on the top was renewed. By this measure its height was reduced to 327 metres. In 1990 the overhorizon radio relay link to former West Berlin was obsolete as after German reunification towers in former GDR could be used for radio relay links. In the following years the mast lost more and more transmission functions and got after the switch off of the analogue TV transmitter serving its antenna on July 1st, 2008 completely useless. Originally it was planned to be demolished on December 31st, 2008 at midnight, but this was not possible as many parts containing asbestos had to be removed. Also a demolition in spring 2009 was not possible in order not to endanger breeding birds. On August 20th, 2009 10:00 UTC it was finally demolished by cutting the guys with 3 kilogramm Semtex Razor 40 explosive. The mast fell a bit more north as calculated and destroyed by its impact the road to the tourist café Höhbeck Schwedenschanze.

• Together, there is a 44m smaller structure: http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=82435
and a similar Mast: http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=46674
