Description
Architect: T.Y. Lin International and Moffat & Nichol

- Engineers knew for over 30 years that a major earthquake could destroy the original San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Eastern Span. In 1989, The Loma Prieta Earthquake caused a section of the upper deck to collapse to the lower deck, one motorist was killed. For the next few years plans started on either retrofitting the bridge, or simply replaceing it.

- The New bridge will open in 2012, until then the original bridge will stay open.
