Constructed for Chicago's 1893 Columbian Exposition.
Hastily built to compete with Paris' Eiffel Tower, the Ferris Wheel was constructed several months late and into the fair.
In 1894, following the fair, the wheel was dismantled and moved ot the North Side of Chicago. It was sold in 1903 and dismantled and moved again to St. Louis' Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904. It was blown up for scrap metal in 1906.
