- The building was completed in 1955 for the Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, though by 1975 the company had moved to the newly completed Independent Square.
- The Jacksonville Electric Authority purchased and moved into the building in 1976, but moved out of the building in March 1999 leaving it vacant.
- GNP Development announced a redevelopment of the vacant building in April 2015 which would include adding a 13-story additiona to the side of the tower, and transforming the building into office and hotel space with retail on the ground floor.
