Description
Pennsylvania’s first state facility to house the mentally ill and disabled. Opened in 1851 as a result of the successful lobbying efforts of 19th Century social reformer, Dorothea Dix. Stately buildings in pastoral setting. Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
