Description
Monument to Hanab Pacal, a Mayan king. Pacal started this monument and his son Chan Bahlum completed it, adding in some inscriptions on his inheritance of the throne.

Pacal himself was buried under the pyramid.

An observatory in the nearby palace is sited so that on the day of the Winter Solstice, the sun sets directly over the top of this temple.
