• The building opened as the first tower of the original MGM Grand Las Vegas, a second tower was added to the property in 1981. The resort was purchased by Bally Manufacturing and renamed Bally's Las Vegas in 1986. The property was rebranded again in 2022 and is now known as Horseshoe Las Vegas.
• On November 21, 1980 a fire broke out in the lobby and killed 85 people resulting in one of the country's worst high-rise fires.
