• World's tallest tower till 1674.
• Europe's tallest structure till circa 1160.
• Highest tower constucted in Bologna in middle ages. One of the few reminescent of a total of about 180 ones in ancient time. This was the tallest tower in dispute of whom built the highest to have power and control in city during this violent time inside the Burg. • The Asinelli Tower was used by the scientists Giovanni Battista Riccioli (in 1640) and Giovanni Battista Guglielmini (in the following century) for experiments to study the motion of heavy bodies and the earth rotation. Today a relay of communication is installed from RAI Television broadcasts.
