Description Originally built as a replacement for Grace Memorial Bridge, it was later redesigned to accompany Grace and carry only the northbound traffic of US Highway 17. The third land was reversible for overflow southbound traffic and upon application of a weight limit on the Grace Bridge, it became a permanent southbound lane for trucks and other large vehicles.
Currently the bridge carries the northbound and heavy southbound traffic of US Highway 17 over the Cooper River and Town Creek and will soon be replaced by a new 8-lane, cable-stayed bridge.
