Description Building for the static inverter of HVDC "Elbe-Project", the first operational HVDC in the world. It consisted of a 115 kilometres long bipolar underground cable from Vockerode to Berlin-Marienfelde. Construction work on this power transmission system started in 1941. The HVDC "Elbe-Project" was designed for a transmission power up to 60 MW at an operation voltage of ±200 kV. The facility was completed in 1945, but it was never in use as result of the war situation in Germany at those days.
After World War II the equipment of HVDC "Elbe-Project" was dismantled by the Soviet occupants and used for an HVDC link between Moscow and Kashira, which went in service in 1951. The hall itsself was used as workshop for nearby Vockerode Power Plant and houses today some offices-
