Description
Vogelsang Power Station is a lignite fired power station, which was built for the power supply of several factories built in the area during World War II.
However it never went into service as construction work stopped on January 31st, 1945, because of the war front drew too close.
A trial run of one generator was performed though.
After World War II the Soviet occupants dismantled the installed equipment and brought it in the USSR.
Although in 1951, not far away in Eisenhüttenstadt, construction of a large steelwork started, Vogelsang Power Station was not reconstructed and dilapitated.
The building was later used for exercices for the civil defense of the GDR Combat Groups of the Working Class.
Today it is a ruin.
