Description
Radisson Collection Hotel housed, from 2003 to 2022, the largest cylindrical aquarium in the world.
It consisted of acrylic glass and had a diameter of 11.5 meters and a height of 16 metres and was filled with 1000 tons of salt water.
In the centre of the aquarium, there was a acrylic glass tube, in which an elevator traveled, which allowed visitors an extraordinary view on the animals in the aquarium.
On December 16th, 2022 5:43 CET the aquarium bursted, whereby two persons were hurt and nearly all of the 1500 fishes, who lived in the aquarium, were killed.
The burst was also recorded on some seismographs in Berlin area.
The resulting flood wasted the lobby of the hotel and spilled furniture on the nearby road. It also damaged some floors in the nearby Museum of GDR.
