Description The tower carries together with its twin on the opposite shore of Ostrich Lake the longest span of an electric line used for vehicle power supply in the world. It has a length of 369 meters and is used by Ostrich Lake Ferry (German: Strausseefähre) for feeding its ship "Steffi" with AC with a voltage of 230 Volts and a frequency of 50 Hertz. The used overhead line has a single pole. As return conductor two ropes in the lake are used, whose primary purpose is guiding the ferry ship.
Ostrich Lake Ferry is one of the few ferries in the world, which is propelled electrically with an external power supply by an overhead wire. It is a landmark of Strausberg and a protected monument.
The actual tower, which also carries a clock, was built in course of the modernization of the eastern mooring site as replacement of an old tower, which was similar to that on the opposite bank of the lake.
