Description
• The oldest parts of the church date from the 4th and 5th centuries.

• The church was rebuilt in the 11th and 12th centuries, and reconsecrated in 1177.

• The church was badly damaged in the Fourth Crusade and reconsecrated again in 1285. The repairs, including the façade were completed in 1324.

• Construction of the bell tower began in 1452 with the completion of its ground and first floor. But was not completed until 1893 when its upper floors were completed to the design specifications of English architect and art historian Thomas Graham Jackson.

• The church is on UNESCO's Tentative List of World Heritage Sites
