Description
• Arguably considered the oldest cathedral in the world, the church - the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church - was originally built in 301-303, but fell into disrepair by the late 5th century. It was rebuilt in 483-484 by the marzban (governor) of then Persian or Sasanian Armenia, Vahan Mamikonian.

• The dome was completed in the 1600's as were the belfries and turrets. The sacristy was the last section to be added, completed on the east end of the cathedral in 1868.
