Description Architect: Wallace Rayfield
- The church was bombed by the white supremacist Ku Klux Klan on September 15, 1963, killing four children. This expediated the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, 1965 Voting Rights Act, and the banning of literacy tests and poll taxes for voting.
- The building was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on June 16, 1976, the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1980, made a National Historic Landmark on February 20, 2006,
