Description - The castle was built on the site of a 13th century wooden castle destroyed by the Mongols.
- Although commonly referred to as "Dracula's Castle," there is no evidence Bram Stoker used it as inspiration for his work, and there are only tenuous connections between the castle and the historical figure Vlad the Impaler.
- From 1928 to 1940 the castle was a royal residence of the Kingdom of Romania.
