Description - Architect(s): Schmidt, Garden & Martin (1917) / Albert Kahn (1927)
- The original 10-story, 450-room portion of the hotel was completed in 1917, and the 450-room tower addition was completed in 1927.
- RSC & Associates began a renovation of this structure in the spring of 2007 to convert the former hotel into the Fort Shelby Doubletree Guest Suites Detroit with a 203-room hotel, 56 apartments, and about 23,000 square feet of convention space. It was reopened in December 2008.
- The 2007-2008 renovation included the 22nd floor being transformed into a roof-top penthouse, with a private terrace.
