Hangzhou, abbreviated as Hang and formerly known as Lin'an and Qiantang, is the capital city of Zhejiang Province, a sub provincial city, a core city of the Hangzhou metropolitan area, a mega city, and one of the central cities of the Yangtze River Delta. Hangzhou is located on the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta and at the western end of Hangzhou Bay. It is an extended intersection of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, as well as a strategic hub city of the Online Silk Road. As of the end of 2023, the total land area of Hangzhou City is 16850 square kilometers, with 10 districts, 1 county-level city, and 2 counties under its jurisdiction, achieving a regional GDP of 1875.3 billion yuan and a permanent population of 12.522 million people.
Hangzhou belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate, located at the junction of low hills and plains in the Tianmu Mountain Range. The southwest is characterized by low hills and terrain, with the highest peak in the area, Tianzhu Mountain, reaching an altitude of 413 meters. The other southern peaks, Geling Peak, etc. are between 300 and 100 meters above sea level, surrounding Xihu Lake and extending northeastward in a syncline. The entire plain is crisscrossed by rivers and canals, with a dense water network, and has a typical Jiangnan water town landform in China. Hangzhou belongs to the Qinhang metallogenic belt region and is an important polymetallic metallogenic belt in our province. It has abundant reserves of limestone resources and outstanding advantages.
