Panjin, also known as Hexiang, Youcheng, and Wetland Capital, is a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province. It is located in the southwest of Liaoning Province, in the central area of the Liaohe River Delta, adjacent to Anshan City to the east and northeast, facing Yingkou City across the Daliao River to the southeast, Jinzhou City to the west and northwest, and Liaodong Bay in the Bohai Sea to the south. In the twelfth year of Emperor Gaozu of Han (195 BC), Fang County was established within the territory, which was abolished by the Western Jin Dynasty. In the first year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644), Haicheng County was established, and the southern region of the area was under the jurisdiction of Haicheng County. In the 13th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1808), the Xinmin Department was established, and the northeastern part of the current territory was under the jurisdiction of the Xinmin Department. Panshan County was established in 1913. In November 1956, it was renamed as Panjin Agricultural Reclamation Bureau, and Panjin City was established as City in June 1984. In March 2016, Dawa District was established in Panjin City. Panjin has the 5A level scenic spot of "Wonders of the World" Red Beach and the largest reed marshes in the world with well preserved vegetation types
