Benxi is located in the southeast of Liaoning Province, adjacent to Tonghua City in Jilin Province to the east, Liaoyang City to the west, Dandong City to the south, Fushun City to the north, and Shenyang City to the northwest. It is an important hub for the Shendan Railway and Shendan Expressway. Benxi City has 2 Manchu Autonomous Counties (Benxi Manchu Autonomous County and Huanren Manchu Autonomous County), 4 districts, 1 national high-tech industrial development zone, 35 street offices, 18 towns, 5 townships, 228 communities, and 287 administrative villages. Within the territory, there are numerous peaks and undulations, with many mountains and little land. 80% of the area is mountainous, 8.7% is arable land, and 11.3% is water and other land, forming a natural landscape of "eight mountains, one water, and one farmland". Benxi belongs to the temperate humid climate zone, with distinct four seasons and abundant rainfall. There are more than 100 types of mineral resources that have been discovered in Benxi city, including 4 types of metallic mineral resources such as iron, copper, lead, zinc, aluminum, and gold. By 2021, the total area of Benxi City will be 8413.96 square kilometers. By the end of 2012, the registered residence population of the city will be 1402254, and the regional GDP will be 93.08 billion yuan
