Yangzhou, also known as Guangling, is a prefecture level city in Jiangsu Province. Yangzhou is one of the first 24 historical and cultural cities in China, dating back to 486 BC when King Fuchai of Wu opened the Hangou and built the city of Han. During the Han Dynasty, present-day Yangzhou was known as Guangling and Jiangdu, and had long been the fiefdom of feudal lords and kings. During the Three Kingdoms period, it was a military stronghold in the Jianghuai region. During the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Guangling was renamed Wuzhou. The Sui Dynasty renamed Wuzhou as Yangzhou and established the General Administration Office. During the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong visited Yangzhou multiple times.
