Description - Architect/Master Mason: Elias of Dereham
- Developer: Bishop Reginald de Bohun/Bishop Jocelyn of Wells
- Length x Width (including transepts): 126 m x 47 m
- Width of West Front: 45 m
- The cathedral began construction sometime in the 1180's, and was dedicated 1239, though constructed continued on the cathedral until the completion of the chapter house in 1306.
- Under Bishop John Drokensford, the central tower was heightened, and the eight-sided Lady Chapel was completed in 1326. The master mason/architect for these projects was Thomas of Whitney.
- Under Bishop John Harewell, and the direction of master mason William Wynford in 1365, the southwest tower of the West front was constructed, and the northwest tower was designed and later built in the early 1400's.
