- This monument was built to commerate the Iowan soldiers who fought in the United State's Civil War.

- A statue depicting "Victory" tops the monument, and all four Iowan generals who served during the war are depicted, among many others.

- Jensen Conservation Services cleaned and renovated the monument in 2004.

- Because of controversies over the location of the monument and artistic details, it was not dedicated until 1945.

- It is located on the Iowa State Capitol grounds.
