Description Architect: Robert Merrill
Opened: October 20, 1931
Once known as the Skyscraper of the Plains; it was the tallest building between Albuquerque and Dallas at the time of construction.
Each room had hot and cold running water, a telephone, and an overstuffed Murphy bed. The Hotel Clovis had the first elevator in southeastern New Mexico. Radio station KICA broadcasted from the first floor.
The ballroom guests included Louis Armstrong, Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Ronald Reagan and Hank Williams.
The hotel closed when Santa Fe Railroad discontinued passenger service to Clovis in the early 1980's.
