• The tower has the smallest floors of any skyscraper in downtown Chicago.
• In 1998 pieces of terra cotta fell of the building, as a result the top of the tower was wrapped in mesh. In 2000, the top 4 floors were demolished because they were had structurally decayed. For two years, the building stood without its cupola.
• On the weekend of November 23-24 2002, a helicopter lifted a new steel framework from a river barge to the top of the tower, restoring the cupola. Although on November 22, 2003 a few tiles fell off the tower again and hit two pedestrians on the street below.
• The Mather Tower was Designated a Chicago Landmark on March 7, 2001.
• The building was once the headquarters of the Mather Stock Car Company
• The original design for this building included an adjacent second identical building and a radio tower.
• Renovated in 1982-1983 by Harry Weese and Associates.
• The lower part of the building is used for office space while the upper portion of the building is home to a private hotel.
