• Previously called the Vertical Assembly Building, it was where the mammoth Saturn V rockets of the Apollo program were constructed.
• The height of the internal VAB bays limit the size of new rocket designs that can be undertaken by NASA. The new Ares V, therefore, with its RS-68 engines, is wider than it was originally planned to be because it could not be taller (the RS-68 engines use more fuel than the originally assigned SSMEs).
